About The Detroit Country Day School

The Detroit Country Day School is an independent, non-denominational, coeducational school for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students located on four campuses in the Bloomfield and Beverly Hills area of Oakland County, Michigan. The mission of the Detroit Country Day School is to provide a superior college preparatory, liberal arts education to young people of cultural and intellectual diversity. Within a dignified and supportive setting, the school promotes the academic, moral, character, and leadership development of all its students so that they can pursue excellence in their lives and careers, as well as play effective roles in their families and communities. Over the past 90 years, the school has gained national recognition for excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.

The core of Country Day’s mission is commitment to academic excellence, which is realized through an innovative and rigorous curriculum combined with individual attention from its outstanding faculty. As universities have become increasingly selective, Country Day has given its students an edge through a strong foundation in the liberal arts and instruction in a wide range of study and research skills. The school offers a superior liberal arts curriculum at all levels, emphasizing Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and college-level courses in the Upper School. Every Country Day graduate earns acceptance at four-year colleges and universities, and the prestigious International Baccalaureate program qualifies graduates for international university admission or sophomore standing in many American colleges.

In addition to academic excellence, the Detroit Country Day School also emphasizes athletic and artistic excellence. The tradition of the scholar-athlete is taken very seriously at Country Day, and students in grades 6 through 12 are required to participate in some athletic endeavor. This tradition has consistently produced championship teams, outstanding athletes, and legendary coaches among the school’s 30+ varsity squads. The school’s musical performing groups are also consistently recognized as among the finest programs in the state; the theater and dance department offers experiences and facilities that are more commonly found at the college level; and the visual arts program produces outstanding young artists, some of whom have exhibited on the national level. Country Day’s athletic and arts programs have helped teach thousands of young people the values of teamwork, friendship and commitment, and have made the vision of producing healthy, well-rounded students of character a reality.
