The Selection Process

What is involved in the selection process?

Recipients of the Future Leaders Merit Scholarship Program are selected by Skandalaris family members with input from an advisory board. Recipients are chosen based on a number of factors, with emphasis on each individual’s character, grade point average, achievement test scores, essay, accomplishments outside of the classroom, and future potential, and some consideration for financial need. Applicants will be notified in writing of the Foundation's decision.

Are there terms to continued acceptance?

In order to renew the Skandalaris Scholarship in future years, a student must:

  1. Consistently demonstrate a cooperative attitude in respect to academic proficiency. It should be clearly understood that the major responsibility of the student is to dedicate quality effort and time to the academic requirements, objectives, and policies of the school. To that end, all students are asked to follow through with quality homework, attend tutorials and Academic Enrichment as needed, and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  2. Conduct himself/herself in a responsible and cooperative manner at all times. Students must demonstrate consistent exemplary behavior. The candidate must not involve himself/herself in discipline problems dealing specifically with academic integrity, harassment of other students, dishonesty, lying, fighting, stealing, smoking and/or substance abuse.

Every Skandalaris Scholar must meet the sports and activity requirements of DCDS. Please consult the school for more information.

How will the scholarship funds be disbursed?

All foundation aid will be sent directly to Detroit Country Day School.
